Johnny Reid is an interesting dude. Born in Scotland he emigrated to Canada as a teenager and then went on to attend University in Quebec. He lived in Toronto and has recorded in Nashville, where he now lives. Add to this a heavy Scotish accent and you got a new Canadian country singer. Yeah.

Death of a Salesman review - Soulpepper Theatre Company PDF Print E-mail

Seeing this play is a reminder of my college days when I enthusiastically read just a small snippet of the intense dialogue that was Willy Loman's, the tragic main character in this Arthur Miller drama originally penned in 1949. I was also able to see it when Judd Hirsch masterfully claimed Willy as his own self, touring North America in the late 90's. So much to live up to Soulpepper.

Yeah that sounds harsh, but don't get me wrong, my wife and I actually love Jesse Cooke and own some CDs of his that have set the mood for some memorable nights at our house -  of course when the kids were out that is! But this last March 5th at Massey Hall, I wish Jesse had just simply not come to Toronto, and now I don't want him to return - at least to Massey Hall.

Jeff Bridges plays a run down, country western singer blessed with talent, but cursed in old age from the relentless sins of alcohol and cigarettes. What could have been, and felt like a modified version of the downfall of Mickey Rourke's Randy in last year's The Wrestler at least part way through, turns out to be something more of a personal triumph over addictions that all too often end in destruction.

Audio books have a huge impact not only on visually-impaired individuals but on regular, normal people like us. It is not bulky, which means it does not occupy a massive amount of space, it is light and handy, and to top it all of, a lot of people can share the story or anecdote or any topic of a certain book at the same time.
