Johnny Reid is an interesting dude. Born in Scotland he emigrated to Canada as a teenager and then went on to attend University in Quebec. He lived in Toronto and has recorded in Nashville, where he now lives. Add to this a heavy Scotish accent and you got a new Canadian country singer. Yeah.

Jeff Bridges plays a run down, country western singer blessed with talent, but cursed in old age from the relentless sins of alcohol and cigarettes. What could have been, and felt like a modified version of the downfall of Mickey Rourke's Randy in last year's The Wrestler at least part way through, turns out to be something more of a personal triumph over addictions that all too often end in destruction.

The movie is directed by Nora Ephron who is an A-lister herself, and features the talented Meryl Streep as Julia, Stanley Tucci as Julia’s husband Paul, and Amy Adams as Julie.
