Ovo, Cirque du Soleil’s newest touring show, has just come to Toronto. Performed under the Big Top, a large blue and yellow tent constructed on Commissioners Street, the show promises to dazzle, amaze and entertain and it does not miss its mark. Ovo, a Latin word meaning egg, stays within the theme of insects throughout the 2 ½ hour show, insects from spiders to dragonflies and crickets to fleas, all attired in creatively designed and stunningly colourful costumes. They will capture your interest and hold you spell-bound as you watch the varied set of presentations, all set to wonderfully catchy, and stunningly beautiful music.

Performances range from acrobatics and juggling to trapeze and trampoline, each feat seemingly less possible than the last. Never a dull moment, the high-energy show is always attentive to the audience, and distracts you in one place while something is set up or taken down in another. It will make you laugh in parts, gasp in parts and quizzically shake your head in wonder at how something could be achieved with such precision and timing.

If you are already a fan, well, this show will certainly live up to your expectations. And if you have never before seen a Cirque du Soleil performance, this is certainly one to take in. Cirque du Soleil takes the best of that old-time circus feel and elevates it to new heights. Playing until November 8th in Toronto. be sure to arrive early to enjoy the snacks, and shops. (b.t.w., best popcorn I’ve tasted in years!)
