The older generation of women are the least likely to get a pedicure, but are also the ones in need of it most. ladies - don`t deny yourself or your spouse the beauty of sexy toes seen through shoes! One of the ways a woman can pamper herself is to go to her pedicurist and change her feet from rough and tired, to smooth and revitalized – and pretty, too! A pedicure may be a beauty treatment but it is also part of good grooming, but even men should have it, really.
You mean to tell me you've never had a pedicure?
If you think a pedicure is all about trimming your nails and giving them a nice polish, that goes to show you haven’t been going to the right pedicurist. A pedicure involves exfoliating the skin on your feet to soften the hard spots and to get rid of the callouses. This is commonly done by first soaking the foot in warm scented water and then scrubbing it to remove the dead skin. A massage with the use of scented oils is usually the most relaxing part of a pedicure. In most salons and day spas, you can choose the scent you want. The pedicurist also cleans, trims, and treats your toe nails with oil or cream. You may choose a shade of polish of your nails or ask for the pedicurist for her recommendation.
Different pedicures
There are different types of pedicures to choose from depending on how pampered you want to be and how much time you can carve out of your busy day. While some would get a basic pedicure for half an hour, some may indulge themselves and enjoy an hour and a half’s worth of feet treatment.
A basic pedicure usually consists of a foot soak, nail cleaning, and application of nail polish. Though there are commonly a wide variety of shades to choose from, many women now go for French pedicures for their clean, sophisticated look.
A paraffin wax treatment refers to a pedicure that involves rubbing warm wax from the legs down to the toenails. This treatment is meant to moisturise the legs and feet.
A luxury pedicure includes a basic pedicure, a paraffin wax treatment, a scented foot massage and a heated foot wrap to revitalize and soften the feet.
A day spa may also name their pedicures and foot treatments according to what products or scents they use.
The specials
When you go to the spa or nail salon, don’t be intimidated by the terms that they use for the pedicures and treatments. Ask for the pedicurist’ recommendation or, if you are particularly interested on one of the treatments they have listed, go ahead and ask what that involves.
Here are some common types of special pedicures you’ll find in a salon and what they actually are:
Green tea pedicure – Your soak or mud treatment uses green tea. Chocolate pedicure – Your pedicurist will apply a chocolate masque on your foot. Peppermint pedicure – Your feet will be scrubbed using a peppermint exfoliant or softened with a peppermint moisturiser. Rose pedicure – Either your foot soak or foot scrub (or both) will make use of rose petals. Lavender pedicure – Your feet will be massaged with lavender oil. Earth spa pedicure – This involves a clay foot masque. Ocean spa pedicure – Your feet will be exfoliated using sand.
The best day to get a pedicure is today. Your feet have been working hard and it’s time to give them a break from your hectic schedule. Treat them with some pampering and you’ll surely feel lighter and re-energized after your trip to your pedicurist.
