Rover needed a house and I thought building one for him would be a snap. Well, it was easy, once I got online, found a good set of dog house plans. If you ask me, I would recommend you do the same thing before you go out and invest in materials, thinking you can design as you go. Surely it could not be that difficult to draw up a simple dog house, or so I thought. I was wrong, and I wasted an entire week end trying to draw the dog house and I never even got to the list of materials. Drawing my own plan did not work for me, and I doubt it will work for you either. Now, I am aware that there are those among us who can design a simple dog house, but they are more talented than the average fellow. Since Rover was in dire need, and the wife was encouraging a successful project, it was necessary for me to go with my Plan B which was look for a good set of plans. While the wife is breathing fire on my neck about Rover's need, I faced my limited talent at the drawing board. Sometimes it just pays to admit where our weaknesses are and move on. I knew that without good plans there was the possibility that we would have yet another unfinished project around our house. The wife does not like unfinished projects. When I went online to look for dog house plans it did not take me long to find just the plan for Rover. And, having a real set of plans eliminated some problem areas for me. Getting a list of materials with the set of plans was a bonus for me also, because as I read over the list, I realized my first plan, the plan I was trying to make all by myself, would have used the wrong lumber. Not good! In my way of thinking, having those plans saved me time and money. I even found it easy to make some minor changes to the plans that were necessary so Rover's house would fit the corner of the yard where we wanted it to be. Once I had the set of plans, the project got off the ground quickly. And, I finished it in one week end. Now Rover has a new home, and the wife is happy. When the wife is happy, I am happy too.
